UNPO: Hmong: Professional Network to Connect Different Generations of Diaspora Community

http://diasporasnews.com/ Mai Zong Vue, an influential activist for the Hmong in the US, has established the first network of Hmong professionals in Madison, Wisconsin. The network aims to foster a sense of community within the Hmong diaspora in the region, and develop leadership skills incentivising younger generations to be actively involved in volunteering in the community. The network also seeks to establish a greater presence of Hmong professionals in the community writ large. Below is an article published by the Cap Times: http://diasporasnews.com/ Over the last decade, young Hmong professionals moving to Madison have approached Mai Zong Vue on how to connect with others in their new community. “Do you know if there’s a group of Hmong professionals?” individuals would ask the Hmong community organizer. After years of being forced to respond that there was no such group, this year she decided to start the first Hmong professional networking organization in Dane County.

Kurdish diaspora investors hoping to help out Kurdistan Region

http://diasporasnews.com/ “We can build an economic bridge between Europe and the Kurdistan Region,” WARSAW, Poland—At a Warsaw university hall in late October around 40 Kurdish investors living in Europe held their first economic forum which was also attended by the Polish deputy economy minister and a number of other Polish and European businessmen. They all came to the forum with big objectives. “Businessmen from all four parts of Kurdistan should come together. This is just an initial step,” Kamil Yavus, one of the Kurdish businessmen in Poland, said. In the forum, ways to build joint business projects, and coordination between Kurdish and European businessmen were discussed. It was a good opportunity for the Kurdish business owners of all four parts of Kurdistan now living in Europe to find ways that could bring them closer to one another. http://diasporasnews.com/ “We can build an economic bridge between Europe and the Kurdistan Region,”

SA insincere on migrant crisis, says African Diaspora Forum

http://africandiasporaleaders.com/ The treatment of refugees and asylum seekers by the home affairs department in South Africa is a cause for concern in a country considered by many as a beacon of hope in Africa, the African Diaspora Forum (ADF) said on Tuesday. “We cannot assume that the South African government doesn’t know what is happening here at the Marabastad Refugee Reception Office [in Pretoria]. This facility is managed by an oiled system of corrupt individuals who are employed by home affairs,” said Marc Gbaffou, chairperson of the ADF. “Prior to 1994, the whole continent was so keen to have South Africa free so that it can lead this continent further. Unfortunately, post 1994 South Africa is turning into what we know today – rejecting Africans and going everywhere claiming that it is receiving them in bulk and taking care of them.” Scores of activists from civic society groups including ADF, Lawyers for Human Rights, Consortium for Refugees and Migrants in South A

Fidel Castro, African hero - The Washington Post

Dictator or not, many in Africa see the Cuban leader as a symbol of freedom. Following his release after 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela made sure one of his first trips abroad was to Havana. There, in the Cuban capital in 1991, Mandela lavished his host, Fidel Castro, with appreciation. Castro, said Mandela, was a “source of inspiration to all freedom-loving people.” The scene might seem paradoxical in some corners of the West. How could the global symbol of African liberation and democracy say such a thing about a man whose death last Friday provoked exiles who fled repressive Cuban rule to dance in Miami's streets? How could Mandela — imprisoned by South Africa's apartheid rulers — find common ground with Castro, who cleared his way to absolute power in Cuba by jailing untold numbers of dissidents? The answer lies in Cuba's robust, and sometimes pivotal, support for many African groups as they fought to bring the era of colonialism to an end. And now, upon Castro's death,

Black America and the Passing of Fidel Castro | Alternet

http://africandiasporaleaders.com/about-the-book/ Fidel Castro immediately had a special significance for countless Black Americans. It is impossible to discuss Fidel Castro outside of an examination of the Cuban Revolution. And, while I hear that there are many Cuban Americans dancing with glee upon news of the death of President Castro, I know that the emotions within Black America are and will continue to be quite different. For any Black American who knows anything about the history of the Western Hemisphere, both Cuba and Haiti have a special significance. Haiti, of course, for successfully ousting the French in 1803 and forming the second republic in the Americas; a Black republic. Cuba, in 1959, kicked out the USA, the Mafia, and a corrupt ruling class that had enforced racist oppression against most of the Cuban population. In the cases of Haiti and Cuba, their audacity in the face of a racist imperialism brought forth the wrath of their opponents. How dare the Cubans sta

Donald Trump and Africa | Global Trade Magazine

https://www.diasporaengager.com/Africa For Africa, at stake in this election of Donald Trump is the strong bipartisan consensus in Congress that has been the cornerstone of U.S. policy toward the continent for the last three administrations. This consensus, supported by Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama, was predicated on the notion that Africa has opportunities worth U.S. attention and investment. In the past two decades, Congress not only passed the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), but also enacted transformative initiatives such as the President’s Emergency Program for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), created the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and, more recently, passed the Power Africa Act, the Food Security Act, and AGOA’s extension. http://africandiasporaleaders.com/ Will a Trump administration seek to weaken or overturn these and other legislative initiatives? Hopefully not. Nevertheless, there is no evidence that Africa will be a priority for President Trump in

Nikki Haley’s Path: From Daughter of Immigrants to Pick for U.N.

https://www.diasporaengager.com/miniRegister ATLANTA — Gov. Nikki R. Haley of South Carolina is the daughter of immigrants, favors free markets and global trade, and earned international attention for speaking out against the Confederate battle flag in the aftermath of the 2015 massacre at a black church in Charleston. During Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign, she sharply criticized his demeanor and warned what it might mean for American diplomacy — even suggesting that his tendency to lash out at critics could cause a world war. But on Wednesday, Mr. Trump named Ms. Haley as his choice for ambassador to the United Nations, a move that will most likely serve to both assuage and confound the president-elect’s critics, raising questions about the tone and direction of his foreign policy. She would also add ethnic and gender diversity to the appointments, so far predominantly white men, he has made to other top posts in the administration. http://diasporasnews.com/

African nations set to abandon intl court

http://africandiasporaleaders.com That several African countries have left the International Criminal Court (ICC) with many others threatening to follow suit is a sign of things to come. Established in 2002, the international court aims at addressing impunity of the highest level. This is done through prosecuting the gravest of crimes, which are crimes against humanity, genocide, war crimes and the crime of aggression. African states form the single largest block since 34 of the 122 members of the ICC are from the African continent. Countries that have already withdrawn from the ICC are South Africa, Burundi and Gambia. South Africa is a founding member of the court and its departure is expected to catalyze the exit of other African countries such as Kenya, which has long expressed a desire to withdraw from the ICC. That nine out of 10 situations of atrocities committed against humanity are

Two days before the Americans elected their new President, Mr. Donald Trump, the next president of Benin Republic (West Africa) was prophesied on Sunday November 6, 2016, during a live service in Pretoria, South Africa, by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri (aka Major1), the spiritual son a Prophet Uebert Angel, the one who accurately prophesied the election of Mr. Trump many months before it came to pass! I am posting this prophecy and the picture of the future president as a witness so that when it happens, people may believe! Major1 said that if that prophecy about Benin does not come to pass, he is a fake prophet. Let’s wait and see the outcome in 2020 when the election will be done! I believe 100% this will come to pass and Benin will be the Dubai of Africa just as Major1 prophesied!
